My great grandfathers shop was in Detroit and I'm the owner of a four generation place (same family) that dates back to 1929. 50 years for me and still working. I still own books with pictures that were from that era. Services lasted 3 or 4 days back then so most things were made in water containers to give the arrangement a chance to last. Vases and baskets were the norm. Large, fanned out displays. We even provided palm plants so that the director could fill the space behind the casket. stands and easels were provided by the florists and some were recycled, but usually the director kept them for his own use. "Set pieces" ( hearts, crosses, pillows, and wreathes ) were made of wire forms stuffed with spagnum moss to hold the flower stems.
