Divided. In the 2008 election the state voted for President Obama. The State General Assembly has the Republicans holding the Senate and the Democrats with a slight majority in the House. They have a Democrat as the Governor and a Republican as the Lieutenant Governor. Representation in the US House is split 12 to 7 in favor of the Democrats who picked up one seat in 2008. Both US Senators are Democrats however Senator Arlen Specter crossed the aisle to become a Democrat in 2009.
