ITS CALLED YOUR KEY... TURN IF OFF
I got a friend whose key can't turn the ignition on her 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. She can't get the steering wheel to unlock either.
A person can get the keys out of their 1999 Pontiac Grand AM SE by calling a local locksmith. He will be able to create a new key, which will allow entry back into the car.
take your key to a hardware store and ask them to copy it. it wont cost much. if you lost the key completely, you are skrewed
its an ignition fuse, i had the same prob with mine
I need to know how to bypass the anti theft system pass key on a 1997 Pontiac grand am. my car will start but goes dead. wont remain running
The ignition switch in a 2004 Pontiac grand am can be installed by first Sliding out old lock cylinder and then Press the small release tab While turning the key to the ON Position.
Turn the key to the on position, wait ten minutes, then it will turn over.
make sure steering wheel isn't locked. have your foot on the brake.
Yes there is. I have an 02 grand prix and when I tried to get a spare I was told I had to go to the dealership because it had to be programmed. The dealership said its about $45.00.
take it to a dealership and have them hook it to the computer. it's the only way I know of.
the ign switch or the key & tumbler ???
Probably the security passlock system (chip in key system). Check for the security light on the dash. If it is you have to go to the dealer get it repaired & reprogramed, approx $600.00. Dealer specific computer needed.
My pontiac grand prix won't allow me to turn the key all the way to the off position car is shut off but key won't come out
I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM and radiator drain cock is located at the lower/front (not bottom) at the curbside of the radiator, you will need a hex key to back out petcock.
there is a little hole under the key switch take a pen and push the little button up and then the key will come out it is from the park cable is jammed
Yes there is, its located at the shifter under the housing. I just replaced mine and I am finally able to get the key out :)
The steering wheel may be putting pressure on the key mechanism. When trying to turn the key, also try to turn the steering wheel one way or another.
check your alternator or make sure the starter is on correctly
I may not be right but try holding down your lock button until the doors lock?
I have pontiac grand am 2002. I reset alarm by leaving key fully on for 10 minutes until " security" light stops flashing. turn off key and wait for 15 seconds. Car will restart. Easy but annoying. Good luck
If you have another key for it, turn the original to the on position without starting the vehicle and leave it for 15-20 seconds. take the key out and immediately put in the unprogrammed key and do the same thing. This should program the key. If you do not have a key that is already programmed then you will have to take it to a dealer.
