Shortgrass
The Great Plains. OR The Shortgrass plains (western, dry) The Tallgrass plains (eastern, wet) The Midgrass plains (in the middle).
The western region of the Midwest is dry because it falls in the rain shadow of the Rocky Mountains. As moist air moves inland from the Pacific Ocean, it is forced to rise over the mountains, cool, and release precipitation on the western side. By the time it reaches the Midwest, it has lost much of its moisture, resulting in drier conditions.

The western region of the midwest of the US is in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. Bedause the Rocky Mountains are so high, the moisture can not rise high enough to go over them, causing the air that reaches the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains to be dry.
It depends where you are. the eastern Midwest tends to be more lush, while the west Midwest is dry and not so good for farming.
