america did not join the league of nations because
Wilson was the president of the United States. The League of Nations was his baby. His own country didn't join. That could be very disappointing.
Although the League of Nations was proposed by US President Woodrow Wilson, the United States of America refused to join.
Stroke
President Woodrow Wilson tried to get the USA to join the League of Nations, but, he failed to do so. Since the USA was not a part of the LoN, it tended to be a worthless organization (that some nations did join) and it failed to prevent WWII.
The Republicans opposed him, and Wilson had a stroke and had to halt his campaign for the league.
The league of nations failed because Germany and Russia two of the great powers in the world did not join the league of nations until later on and even then Germany left. America also didn't join the league of nations because the civillians didn't want to join.
