Prices for Stevens 12 gage side by side?
This would be a Stevens gun made c. 1921-1931. If it is fully functional, not quite like new but not badly worn, it should be worth between $150 and $250.
This was sold by Sears , made by Stevens between 1912 and 1942. It was not made by Browning.
It may not have one. Rifles and shotguns made prior to 1968 were not required to have serial numbers.
Hard to say without a much more detailed description of your shotguns overall condition.
May not have one- not required by law on rifles and shotguns until 1968.
Numrich gun parts corp.should be able to help you. They may be found on the web.

It was manufactured circa 1921-1931.
No. A 12 gage shotgun shoots a larger charge than a 16 gage. Shotgun sizes were designated according to the number of steel balls that could be dropped into the barrel that would weigh a pound. 12 steel balls weighing one pound would be dropped into a 12 gage shotgun. Thus it is a larger size than a 16 gage. (Do not waste your money on a 16 gage shotgun, at least in the United… Read More

The model 311 is a side-by-side.
I would look to Numrich gun parts corp.Their exploaded view of this model and parts description should be able to help you identify the bolt size.
From what I've read, it was made by (Stevens). I've also got a model 5100 12 gauge. The wording (The sportman's Cleavland) is kind of like the model and it was made by Stevens. It's a nice house gun with a hell of a kick. I pitty those who dare breaking/entering.
I would start my search at Numrich gun parts corp. They may be found on the web.
What is the estimated age and value of a 12 Gauge Stevens 5100 double barrel shotgun with the bird dog engraving on the side of the action?
My grandfather recently gave me a Stevens 5100 double barrel 12 gauge and I did a little digging and found that Stevens produced the 5100 from 1931-1941. Value, I'm not sure about. I havn't had mine appraised yet. Shoots nice though :)
Stevens 12 or 16 ga shotgun The name on the side says J Stevens arms company Also on the top it has patented August 12 1913 Does anybody know how old this shotgun may be?
I'm interested in the same info. I have a 12 guage that only says Long Tom and August 12, 1913. I don't see the "J Stevens" anywhere. Where do you find that? This was my Father's gun that he bought used around 1935. That's all I know about it.
Any firearm that a patent has been applied for some part of it may have that marking. It is so common a mark that it does not lend itself to identifying a specific gun.
They were made in .410 bore, 20, 16, 12 gauge, and may have had 32 and 28 gauge options, though they are rare if they exist. It should say on the barrel what gauge and choke it is.

Ranger was a trade name sold by Montgomery Wards. The Model 5000 was made by J. Stevens Arms from 1931-1941.
I would get a 12 gage shotgun to hunt turkeys. You can get 12 gage shotgun shells almost anywhere. It is the most popular size. If you get a 16 gage, you will have an extremely difficult time getting shells. A woman should get a 20 gage to hunt turkeys. It has less kick. A child should use 28 or 410.
When you are deer hunting you usually use a 20 gage or a 12 gage and with squirrel you usually use a 22 gage........ and yes the size of the target!!
Savage Arms and J Stevens made the J. C. Higgins sears robuck and company shotgun. If you look on on the right side of it should say Stevens model (whatever model # it has here) like mine says (Stevens model 311A)
70-100 years or so; seldom exceeds 100 USD
