Well, Continental Rifting is the process in which a continent is literally pulled apart. First, sediment collects on the floor of the rift valley. Oceanic crust made of gabbro and basalt is formed, which is dense and causes the valley to sink. Eventually, ocean water flows into the valley. There you have it. Hope this Helped.
Extrusive igneous rock- Sometimes lava erupts and flows from long cracks in the earths crust called fissures. Lava flows from fissures on the ocean floor at places where tension is causing the ocean to be pulled apart. This lava cools to form new ocean floor. Hope it helps.

Its when either on a destructive plate boundary where the oceanic plate and Continental plate move towards each other, the heavier oceanic plate sinks beneath the Continental plate then the oceanic plate melts in Subduing boundary. Or on a constructive plate boundary when the plates (North American plate and Eurasian plates) are pulled apart by convection currents and Liquid or magma rises between them, forming small volcanoes on the ocean floor. It hardens to basalt which forms the ocean floor. :D

It causes what we call "sea-floor spreading." Sea-floor spreading is the process in which the ocean floor is extended when two plates move apart. As the plates move apart, the rocks break and form a crack between the plates. Earthquakes occur along the plate boundary. Magma rises through the cracks and seeps out onto the ocean floor like a long, thin, undersea volcano.
