In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as well as all of the other books in the Harry Potter series, the author writes in third person limited perspective. This means that she does not write as if she were Harry Potter (which would be first person perspective) but the reader can hear what Harry Potter thinks in addition to what he says and does. The only character who's thoughts are told to the reader is Harry. If the reader could also hear the thoughts of other characters, the book would be in third person omniscient perspective.
