Proteins help form immunoglobulins, or antibodies, to fight infection ( 25 , 26 ). Antibodies are proteins in your blood that help protect your body from harmful invaders like bacteria and viruses. When these foreign invaders enter your cells, your body produces antibodies that tag them for elimination ( 27 ).

to fight diease.

if you want to get more details, then in a nutshell, it has the primary function of identification of and protection from infections and some diseases with use of the specialized cells, tissues, and organs that make up the immune system. Among other processes, it recognizes there is an invader and produces special cells called antibodies which can neutralize it (e.g., intruding pathogens, or foreign bodies or other substances that shouldn't be there). These invaders that can trigger an immune response are called antigens. The immune system produces the required cells to neutralize these potentially pathogenic organisms or substances.

In our immune system(blood) there are white blood cells. They recognize each and every cell. enzyme or any other particle in our body. If any other particle, cell or enzyme enters our body which is not recognized by the white blood cells then such a body is called an ANTIGEN. Due to these antigens the white blood cells release antibodies against these antigens to kill them. Antibodies are also special type of proteins. In this way antibodies and white blood cells together regulate the immune system of the body of an animal.

Such an example is our appendix. It contains white blood cells. It is located near our large intestine. When any unrecognizable particle enters in the appendix, it starts releasing antibodies against these particles. When antibodies increase in a large number, the appendix bursts and in this way it pains and there is a need to remove it otherwise it can lead to other diseases or in some cases death also.

Proteins serve a variety of functions within the immune system. Other than normal functions that keep the cells alive, those that are related to cell division, metabolism, etc. (these are termed homeostatic functions, which can be thought of as housekeeping), immune cells possess a number of proteins that are important for their functions in keeping your body healthy. These proteins can be antigen specific receptors, such as those found on T and B cells (which allow for the recognition of stuff like germs and cancer cells), costimulatory molecules (which help T and B cells to be turned on), and the large family of pattern-recognition receptors (which help your body identify in a general way germs or trauma). There are also a number of proteins that are produced by the immune cells that are released and serve to signal other cells in the body that something bad is happening. These include cytokines and chemokines. Cytokines are proteins that can help alter non-immune cells that something is wrong (these are called inflammatory cytokines) or they can be proteins that help shut down immune responses (anti-inflammatory cytokines). Chemokines serve as protein attractants for other immune cells, and help bring help during an infection.

Now this list in certainly not exhaustive but I hope you get the idea.
