In the USA:

According to Article I, Section 3 of the United States Constitution, the only requirements for becoming U.S. Senator are:

1. You must be at least 30 years old.

2. You must be a U.S. citizen for at least nine(9) years at the time of your election to the Senate.

3. You must be a resident of the state that you are elected to represent in the Senate.

NOTE: In other countries the requirement are different and varied and depend on the constitution of the country concerned.
