Big Joe Turner was a blues shout singer who made the boogie-woogie music popular in America from the late 30's into the 1940's. Then he was also involved in early rock 'n roll with the big hit Shake Rattle & Roll. He was known for his exceptionally loud voice that didn't even require a microphone when he sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

He was born in 1911 and died in 1985.
