JRR Tolkien was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa on the 3rd of January, 1892. When he was a young boy his mom moved to England with his younger brother after his father died. He eventually went on to study at Exeter College specialising in Anglo-Saxon and Germanic languages and classic literature . Later on he taught at Oxford University, and it was while he was there that he wrote the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He died in 1973 at the age of 81 and was survived by four children.
