INSTRUCTIONS: Carefully read the provided case study below, then answer the following questions that apply to the case study! CASE STUDY OF MR J: This case study involves a man by the name of Mr J., a 45-year-old male referred by his attorney for a psychological evaluation following criminal charges that Mr. J had sexually abused a 9-year-old girl. The immediate offense included fondling of the girl’s vaginal area and reported digital penetration. Prior to this offense, however, Mr. J has a history of two prior sexual convictions for indecent exposure to teenage girls, both of which resulted in probation. Mr. J spoke coherently, easily elaborating on his thoughts, and there were no signs of any type of thought disorder displayed. The criminal behavior exhibited during the immediate crime was the fondling and digital penetration of a nine-year-old girl’s vaginal area (Heilbrun, Marczyk, & DeMatteo, 2002); however, for statistical purposes, the fact that Mr. J had victims of multiple age groups will be taken into account when considering his entire criminal history, as the victims of his first two crimes were teenagers but the victim of his immediate crime was just nine years old. Information was not given regarding Mr. J’s childhood, including whether or not his parents were divorced, whether or not Mr. J was sexually, mentally, or physically abused as a child, whether Mr. J suffered from bullying as a child, and whether or not he associated with other deviants. ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS Question 1 1.1 Identify those aspects from the case study that would support your recommendation that Mr J be given which type of sentence and justify the sentence that you think would be the best option. 1.2 Explain how you, as a correctional official, would ensure that you always maintain internal security in the case of Mr J. Question 2 2.1 Do you think Mr J can be rehabilitated, support your answer? 2.2 Which rehabilitation programmes would you apply to Mr J if he were to be Incarcerated? 2.3 Why do you think these programmes will be effective in rehabilitating him? Question 3 3.1 How would you ensure the proper success of Mr J’s reintegration back into his community if he were to serve his sentence in a correctional facility? 3.2 Which mechanisms would you apply to Mr J to prevent his recidivism?
