my rear cat won't come loose(rusted) what's your advise
The catalytic converter bolts to the exhaust manifold on the rear of the engine on a 1999 Chrysler Town and Country.
The upstream sensor is screwed into the rear exhaust manifold. The downstream is screwed into the catalytic converter. The upstream sensor is screwed into the rear exhaust manifold. The downstream is screwed into the catalytic converter.
Disconnect the frontand rear o2 sensor electrical connectors. Separate the catalytic converter from the flex-pipe. Remove the fasteners between the catalytic converter and the exhaust manifold. Disconnect the EGR tube from the catalytic converter. Remove band from the front of the catalytic that holds it to the bracket on the front of the engine block. Remove fasteners holding exhaust manifold to head.
There are 3 oxygen sensors; one in the front exhaust manifold, one in the rear exhaust manifold, one AFTER the catalytic converter. The 2 exhaust manifold sensors are the same BUT the catalytic converter one is different. Also, the 2 exhaust manifold sensors have heaters in them, while the converter one doesn't.
The "Haynes Repair Manual" says there is 2: 1 upstream of the Catalytic Converter, on the rear exhaust manifold. 1 downstream of the Catalytic Converter, on the Exhaust Pipe...
There are 2 O2 sensors. One is in the front (bank 1) before the catalytic converter, between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter, and the other is in the rear (bank 2) after the catalytic converter and is screwed in. The front one is heated and the rear is not. That means after the car begins to heat up the front one comes on and the rear is always on.
There are many reasons as to what may cause a roaring noise in a rear end 1997 Infinity. However, this could be the brake system or needing a new catalytic converter.
there are 3 different cats that you have on the car..the two up front that are manifold to cat, and then the rear cat
2. one in the rear exhaust manifold, the other in the middle of the catalytic converter.
after the rear cat assy is removed.what is the procedure to remove the cat on the firewall side at the manifold?
it is illegal to remove a catalytic converter.
Upstream is screwed into the rear exhaust manifold. Downstream is screwed into the side of the catalytic converter.
