Why don't people donate organs?
There are many reasons why people are against organ donations, although many are, for a lack of a better word, uneducated. People have an irrational fear that by signing up to be an organ donor, that in the events of an accident, doctors will not try their hardest to resuscitate you. This is a complete myth of course, as doctors have to continue practicing CPR on your body-- even if you are brain dead-- in order to prevent your organs from failing. Another prominent reason why people do not donate their organs is because they have never researched the life-saving operation, nor have they had a discussion with their family. Even if the patient wanted their organs to be donated, their mother, father, next of kin, etc have the final say on the decision. If they disagree with it, it is ultimately what is going to happen to you -- and seriously, what can you do about it? Ultimately people's #1 reason for not donating their organs is fear and uncertainty of what is going to happen to them after they are gone. This uncertainty and fear play a very large role in your decision. As well, if a cadaver needs to undergo an autopsy, the organs will most likely not be able to be donated.

What to do for donating a kidney?
Donating your organs are easy! 1.) you can go to your local dmv and get organ donor stickers! 2.) Tell your doctor you want to go on the list to donate organs! 3.) Ask people you know if they know if anyone you can donate to or at least get tested for This makes me very happy. I am on the kidney transplant list right now and hoping for a kidney soon! Thank you for trying to give someone a second chance on life because that is truly what it is!

Asked in Organ Transplants
Why are some people against organ transplant?
Because they think that the body is sacred and your blood is your own and your organs are your own, so there should be no mixing between people etc. Some people don't like the idea of the organs of their relative being taken out and given to someone else. Only a tiny minority of people are actually against donating a deceased loved one's organs on a religious ground - this is because they believe that in order for their loved one to go to heaven, their body must be intact (hence their organs are still necessary in the afterlife). Normally this belief is practiced by those of the Shinto religion. (Also, it should be noted that although Jehovah's Witnesses cannot accept a blood transfusion according to their faith, they can accept an organ transplant (or donate their own organs). Although performing a transplant without transfusing blood would be problematic.) Many religions are hugely favorable towards organ donation, please see related wiki link for further details.
