Each weapon will exhibit a preference for a certain maker/load combination. The only way to know is to shoot as many different loads as you can find.
you should not use 32 Winchester special ammo in a 32-40 rifle! these are two complete different cartridges and you may injure yourself, and blow up a otherwise fine old marlin rifle.one of the major manufactures still load 32-40 ammo from time to time.check with Winchester,Remington or federal. There is also some small company,s that make hard to find ammo which the 32-40 is becoming,so look to the internet for your ammo.
If it's a 270 load, yes.
Follow the instructions in the owner's manual. If you don't have one, go to Remington's web site and request one. Follow the instructions in the owner's manual. If you don't have one, go to Remington's web site and request one.

With the serial number that you have provided, your Winchester model 1894 rifle was made in the year 1951.The availability of ammo should not be a problem since Remington still loads this caliber with there 170gr.core-lokt bullet. If you are a reloader, components are readily available to hand load this cartridge.I still do with either hornady,or speer bullets and dies are available at any well stocked sporting goods store.Brass is available also.I have a Marlin model 336rc(regular carbine) dated to 1949,and it loves my reloads with the Hornady bullets.Good luck, and enjoy that nice pre-64 model 1894 rifle.
Dirt, a bad load, an incorrect load, moisture, old ammo. Any number of things.
