Start with a thorough cleaning of the bolt and trigger group using a solvent such as Shooters Choice. Mis-fires can be caused by an accumulation of crud. If this fails to fix the problem you may need to look at the hammer spring. These do become weak, especially with an older rifle. What is the age of your ammunition? Try some currently manufactured ammo. Is the mis-firing sporadic or does it always happen? If so, you may have a broken firing pin.
Close, but no cigar. Your Montgomery Ward's shotgun Model 6OOERI is the Remington model SPT 58. You can get the firing pin from gunpartscorp.com for $12 plus hipping. It is part number 100170D.
The Remington Society of America has a services/parts link too but e-gunparts.com is a good place to start.
The Remington Model 12-C rifle was produced from 1910 to 1936. This model is a variation of the Remington Model 12, which was introduced in 1909. The Model 12-C specifically refers to the takedown version of the rifle, which allowed for easier transport and storage.
Remington Model 12 barrels are threaded to the action. Barrels can be replaced with the proper equipment.
