You possibly have 2 options here. You can unbolt the straps holding the tank from under the vehicle (the less fuel in it the better) and drop it or you can remove the truck bed and access the tank from above but complete removal will require being underneath the vehicle to disconnect the bolts that hold the clamps or straps on the frame. From above you will be able to access the fuel pump area and fuel line connections and fuel gauge and fuel pump wiring.
The fuel pump on a 91 ford ranger is an electric fuel pump and is located in the gas tank. you must remove the gas tank and then you will see it there on top where it sits down in the tank.
The fuel pump on a '93 ford ranger is located inside the fuel tank. It is eaisest to remove the bed of the truck to access the fuel pump. Access is on the top of the tank behind the cab of the truck. I prefer this to dropping the tank.
