You assumed that Code PO420 Catalysis System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) meant the converter was bad? Not necessarily so. It can be an exhaust leak, defective O2 sensor on bank 1, engine coolant sensor is defective, leaking fuel injector, cylinder misfire, or problem with wiring on O2 sensor.
Code PO420 is catalytic converter efficiency low bank 1
P0420 = Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank1). Sounds like you probably need to replace the Bank 1 (drivers side) Catalytic converter.
Do didn't say which engine you have. The trouble code PO420 is telling you there is a catalystic converter not doing it's job. We need to know which engine and what year you have in order to determine which cat is at fault.
P0420 is a Catalytic Converter efficiency failer. More than likely you will need a new Catalytic Converter.
Catalyst efficiency below threshold. (The catalytic converter may be failing.)
2000 HONDA ODYSSEY CODE PO420.WHAT NEED TO BE REPLACE? ANSWER XXXXXXXXXXXXXX Code PO420 is catalytic converter efficiency low bank 1, sensor1. You did not state as to the year, make and model of the car as well as the engine size. I am a member of IATN and the majority of there fixes was related to someone installing an AFTER MARKET converter. There is a big difference. I strongly suggest that you go to a repair shop with the proper equipment as well as a very good tech to diagnosis the problem. You could replace parts and never fix the problem.jd1709
Po420 2001chevy lmpala
the po420 could also be a misfire or vacuum leak
What is a PO420 in a 2002 mercury cougar: Now if your car is 2.0L DOHC. OBD ll PO420 : Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (BANK 1). Hope this helps...
P0420 is the catalyst efficiency code. The most common thing is the catalytic converter itself is no longer functioning properly. The other likely thing is the rear oxygen sensor is no longer working properly.
p0420 and p0420 are the same.It is possible that the code is registering twice, one for each converter if you have 2.In some cases replacing the O2 sensors helps but it is a hit and miss with these codes and most times the code comes back after a while. The typical response to this code is to replace the converter(s). The catalyic converter is covered by an eight-year, 80,000 mile federally-mandated warranty , so dealers usually just replace it. If you're outside the warranty limits you're in a pickle, OEM cats cost over $1,000.this code is common on cars that do a lot of in city driving. The catalytic converter hardly gets hot enough to burn off the hydrocarbons. A long highway drive may burn off enough of the contaminants on the catalyst element that it may work well enough to turn off the light. It may take several engine start/engine stop drive cycles before the light will turn off.
check for damaged parts loose connections oxygen sensors and catalyst convertor If everything looks intact and that is your only code, you probably have a failing catalytic converter.
