Install the sill flashing first, according to the manufacturer's instructions. As a rule, flashings are nailed into the curb and sometimes cemented to the roof with plastic roof cement, but not nailed to the roof.

Is a flashing kickout at the bottom edge of the roof or wall joint used to keep water from getting behind the stucco or siding?

Not if it is applied properly. Exteriors with stucco that fail, usually do so because of design details. These include: flashings, roof overhangs, lack of thru-wall, deck and curb wall intersections, exterior envelope installation, etc.

How do you write an estimate for roof work?

Include what type of specific materials you are using, where and how those materials will be installed, a projected start date, and the estimated amount of labor and materials. Make sure it's known that it is an estimate only and may vary with unforseen conditions encountered during the work, such as rotted sheathing, inadequate chimney flashings, etc.

Can't find where the leak is coming from the roof of my house?

As a roofer the first port of call is to get some sort of referance from the inside. If there is accessable roof space above the leak then get in there with a good torch and see if you can trace it back to get a good referance before you look on the roof. Once you have your referance you can head for the area on the roof you pinpointed it down to. something mat be obvious before you even climb the ladder. You will need a roof ladder to hook ove rthe ridge to give you access up the roof. Head for the area and look for something out of place; this could be a slipped, cracked or missing tile/slate/shingle. Flashings may have come adrift or the pointing of a chimney or its flashing could be in need of attention. Flat roofs are harder to find the cause of a leak. The best way to deal with that is clean the area thoroughly ( bigger the better) and apply a good quality ruberoid or acrylic membrane. Good luck.

How do you fight your insurance for classifying a claim as a water claim when it was not caused by water damage and there was no pay out?

Your question does not give enough details of your damage. What EXACTLY happened? Water damage includes such things as water pipe breaks & leaks, appliance overflows (washer, A/C drain line), roof leaks, wind-driven rain entering around windows & flashings, surface ground water (flood, seepage).
