Abelisaurus was created in 1985.
An abelisaurus is a theropod dinosaur of the Late Cretaceous pyramid, which occupied the area of land which is now South America.
Being a dinosaur, Abelisaurus (and its other relative, Carnotaurus) would be classified as an Archosaur, along with the extant crocodile-type reptiles and birds.
The largest Abelisaurid was Abelisaurus itself, though most think it is Carnotaurus as it is more famous. Growing to 9 m, Abelisaurus dwarfed Carnotaurus at only 7.5 m
Abelisaurus is a 20 ft theropod. It chased its prey on long, slender hind limbs. Its arms were unusually short. It had a long, narrow head with no horns or ornamentation over its deep-set eyes. Its body style may have been similar to Carnotaurus, a closely related Argentinian meat-eater made famous in Disney's movie Dinosaurus. Only one incomplete skull of Abelisaurus has been discovered.
