I know of four species of Angelfish. They are Pterophyllum scalare, Pterophyllum altum, Pterophyllum dumerilii and Pterophyllum leopoldi. I find it very difficult to differentiate between them but the most commonly available is said to be the P. scalar. There could well be others that have yet to be identified.
Platax scalaris
It is the scientific name for an angelfish.
The most common scientific name for the angler fish is Lophius Piscatorius. Another angler fish is the Black Devil and its' scientific name is Melanocetus johnsoni. One more is the Sargassum angler fish and its' scientific name is Histro Histro. The last one I will put here is the Painted Angler fish and its' scientific name is Antennarius pictus. 'Cichlid' is another name for the freshwater angelfish.
Angelfish are tropical ciclids of the genus Pterophyllum.
Some people have Angelfish as pets and name them angels.
The Latin name for angelfish varies depending on the specific species, but the most commonly referred to angelfish in aquariums is the freshwater angelfish, known as Pterophyllum scalare. For marine angelfish, the genus Pomacanthus includes several species, such as the blue angelfish (Pomacanthus caeruleus). Each species has its unique characteristics and habitat preferences.

no just a name
There are many similarities between angelfish and goldfish- to name one angelfish and fancy goldfish (especially the oranda) both have several long delicate fins.
