It is often said that its most important consequence was that it prevented any chance of France invading Britain. It did that, although Napoleon had already given up that idea some time before the battle.

It is often described as contributing to Napoleon's decision to forego an invasion of Great Britain, since control of the seas remained in British hands. Undeniably, it contributed to the already substantial reputation of British naval skill while providing the British and their allies with further motivation to remain in the fight against the imposing force of Imperial France.
Which war? Canada and Britain were in a lot of wars. In the war of 1812 Britain did lose control of parts of Canada. In WWII Britain had no control of Canada.
