Should a 12 year old have a phone?

I'm a twelve year old and i am ten times more responsible than my friends who have cell phones. it just doesn't seem fair though b/c some people have iphones and razors when i don't even have a cell phone. my advice to parents is no, b/c most of my friends weren't the same after they got one. they r like completeley absorbed in them. if a child really need one DO NOT give them texting, and DO NOT pay for their bill. like all adults, all kids need checks and balances.

-It depends! My parents told me if i could do everything i was told for a week and not complain they would allow me to get a phone. We did a point system. i had to get 100 points. Everytime they saw me do domething good they would give me points. After a month i had gotten 100 points and got to get a phone. they gave me 3 phone choices and they said if i didn't complain about the phone choices and dwas responsible i could keep the phone. My parents liked the point system because they could control if i should have it or not. My mom said even if i don' t NEED it on the occasions where i do need one they i wont have to kill thiers. LOL! I was 12 when I got mine and the deal was if i went over in text messages i had to pay for the amount i went over with. It worked great and i don't text as much as everybody else does because no1 wants to have to pay for things! LOL!

- I think you should, but you can't be texting ALL the time. Some people get "addicted" to texting and in their free time all they do is text. Don't be that kind of person. However, you need a cell phone for an emergency. If something happens, you won't have a way of communicating with your parents. But first you have to prove your responsible. I'm 12 and I still don't have a cell phone. However, I am patiently waiting XD (not)

Yes because they should have a way to contact family and friends for and good reason . Just to talk or coverse> ;)

I agree with everything above but I have another idea! Try making a contract. In order for our daughter to get an iPhone myself, husband and daughter agreed for her to do a few chores to obtain and keep an iPhone.Here are some examples:

-put school bags away

- do the dishes

- clean the litterbox

-pick up doggy doo-doo

- keep room clean

- shower at least every other day

- practice piano and drums, (]or any instrument they play)

*** Be careful not to overload them with chores I suggest 3-5 chores 6 at the max. You don't want to give them every chore because you are still capable of doing some. :) Hope my little addition helps!

Because of safety reasons (eg. if they got lost at the mall w/ friends and needed to call to find out where they were or if they got lost or picked up on the way to school and needed to call u or on the latter scenario call 911.) or for social reasons. Try and think of some reasons like that if you need to convince your parents, or if you are the parent ask your child why he/she wants one, is it because of popularity reasons or do they truly need one for safety?

I'm a13 year old girl and I think 13 year old girls should have a cell phone just for the fact 2 communicate to their parents and also their social life/friends me and my mom is debating on whether i get a phone or not she told me i had to come with a reason and i did and now i have a phone cuz my reason was valid this was the reason think they should cuz it a way 4 them 2 communicate with their friends and also with their parents if they have a cell they can get in touch with their parents to pick em up, when they r in trouble or whenever they just need 2 hear their parents VOICE. That worked now i have a cell phone unlimited talk web text etc.

11yr. olds have Friends too, they need to be able to talk to them, and they are gunna need to talk to their parents. I could do this all day. but when it comes down to it. 11yr. olds need cell phones

yes because they might walk to school or any place else and that helps keep in contact with their parents in any other case their parents know where their are and when are they coming
