most of the time you are gonna wanna be in drive but moving less than 5 miles per hour. The book reads put in neutral and push down on the 4x4 shifter...
On a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the neutral safety switch is typically located on the transmission, near the transmission linkage. It is mounted on the side of the transmission case and is connected to the gear shifter. This switch prevents the engine from starting unless the transmission is in the "Park" or "Neutral" positions.
It only allows starting in park and neutral and it turns on the reverse lights.
It is on the valve body inside the transmission.
the neutral safty switch is located in the trans range switch if you have an aw4 auto trans replace or clean and reinstall the switch
find the conector(s) and jump it. also try starting your vehicle in neutral.
It is inside the transmission, on the valve body. It is called a range sensor.
You cannot !
Check the neutral safety switch on the shifter. If you place the shifter into neutral or push the shifter harder into the park position, this may change the switch position to allow it to start. There is a recall on the grand Cherokees for this switch.AnswerIgnition switch or starter.
You might want to check your park-neutral safety switch, if it is not engaged the starter will not run.
Trouble code P1899 means: Park/ Neutral switch stuck in park or gear
Usually it is located on the shifter inside the console. You have to disassemle the console around the shifter to get to it.
Problem solved...the culprit was bare neutral switch wires shorting out and blowing the fuse!!!!!
