No animals should be kept in zoos, they should be free or be release back into their native habitat after rehabilitation.

They were not kept in a zoo they were simply kept in cages.

Aviaries
you just typed 'zoo' animal in your question theres your answer
Well, i don't believe any dog should be kept in a cage, no matter the size, unless its for a short period of time( vet, trip, etc) Same with cats or any house bred animal to that size range. Birds, small pets, rodents should be kept in cages but should be let out to stretch. Reptiles and amphibians (pardon my spelling) are kept in special glass environments, and should be kept there for the right amount of time. . Leave me a message for further answer :D
wolves and foxes
they are kept in there own habitat which the zoo keepers look after very well , they also look after the animals in a kind and gentle way .
