It's cheaper than a four year college and if you are not strong in a particular area, then getting an associate's degree may prevent you from having to take remedial General Education classes once you start working on your Bacholer's degree.

Previous college student enrolling as a first time student?

This is not a wise thing to do. You will only stand the chance of complicating your life and education. There are students who do not fair well at a college, and apply to others as a first-time student. This is fraud, and can lead to dismissal. It's just not worth it. If the student feels they will not be accepted by an institution based on the students prior academic performance at the other school, it would be better to attend a community college (which are open admissions), bring up their grade point average (GPA), and then apply to the college of interest at a latter date.
