Yes. The students need more recess. (or at least some breaks from instruction)
There are advantages and disadvantages. Yes, the students get more time to play and eat, but if it is extended, then there will be less time for education. And they will not learn to manage their time correctly.

Yes, I find that if we have it we don't have to worry a little too much about obesity because it's thriving throughout the United States (not sure about other countries) and we need more activities such as recess, physical education etc.

∙ 14y agoas an elementary student myself, i think so because basically when your little (not that i am saying i am) your not used to hard work so you need breaks. basically when your in middle school or working as an adult, you'll still have breaks.

when teachers were asked to rate how students are doing at school those who had more recess scored high on tests then those who didn't.

∙ 12y agoIn the last decade or two, many school districts felt that in order to provide more instructional time, it was necessary to eliminate recess from the school day. Some districts went so far as to build new elementary schools without playgrounds. Not only did this not improve academic performance, but it is believed that it was a contributing factor in the current childhood obesity epidemic. The pendulum is now swinging back the other way and elementary school children are once again playing on the swings at recess.

∙ 14y agoIt can't be longer. The state sets the time/minutes in the school day and the school has to follow the time limits. If they added more time, then the school day would have to be longer.

∙ 13y agono, they shouldnt,because student are already dropping out of school. Most student come into school late and never on time. If we started school at like 900 in the morning instead of 700.
