Yes, ragging should be banned in educational institutions as it can lead to physical and psychological harm to students. It creates a negative environment that can affect student well-being and academic performance. Institutions should promote a culture of respect and support rather than allowing such harmful practices.
There is nothing "good" about ragging. It might only be acceptable if freshers were to perform slightly embarrassing pranks, like the boys proposing to the ladies, and the loser does a few push-ups or shines the ladies' shoes (helps make the boys feel less superior), but in fact, it can never be fully controlled by the school and actually only serves to humiliate and sometimes hurt (physically) the freshers. Strong action should be taken to eradicate it, not just laws banning it, but severe punishment of perpetrators, and of school administrators who tolerate it. Here in France, I campaigned for years against "bizutage", the French word for ragging, or "hazing", and we finally managed to have it banned by the law, although there are still isolated incidents.
