To allow people to make a descision on wether or not the movie is appropriate for them or their children. And to let people know how scary or inappropriate the movie is. Some are rated PG13 which means "parental guidance for children under the age of thirteen" because the movie is too inappropriate and maybe scary for kids. _________________________________________________ The government was threatening to begin censoring films. The industry began self-regulating so that would not happen.
