The reason people should be banned from Antarctica is simple. Many years ago after Scott and Amundsen completed the famous race to the south pole, many were interested in the tales of the ice, and decided to investigate. Tourists, scientists and glaciologists moved to antarctica for various reasons. The Antarctic Treaty was introduced but regulations were not always met. Some started hunting the whales and seals for sport and cash. Litter was left behind and over fishing left the penguins hungry. Pollution was almost overwhelming for the rare animals inhabiting Antarctica, and became at risk of becoming extinct. Mining for many minerals and oils embarked and eventually it would ruin Antarctica.

+++ Those are very valid reason with which I agree, especially the mining, but that does not mean people can't visit Antarctica as tourists or scientists provided the very highest precautions are taken to protect it and its wildlife.

Another Answer

The Antarctic Treaty became effective in the 1960s, and violators can be charged with international crimes. There is no commercial fishing allowed. No animals live on the Antarctic continent: it's too cold and there is no food chain. Mining is expressly prohibited by the treaty, and its practical challenges make it economically prohibitive.

Antarctica -- and all of earth south of 60 degrees S -- is preserved for science. Scientific research stations on the continent support countries representing 80% of the earth's population, in the study of planet earth's health.

The tourist traffic business to Antarctica is thriving and well regulated.

Antarctica is not a tourist destination in the traditional sense. It has no tourist facilities, hotels or airports. A few airlines fly over Antarctica to show you the sights, then fly back to where they came from without landing. At least one company runs mountain climbing expeditions, but they make it clear that you need to be experienced and capable and fit enough to endure the rigours or polar mountaineering. Unless you are engaged in some sort of research with a large government grant, you really have no business being there.

At the present time, the only human activity in Antarctica is scientific research and a small amount of what we might describe as "eco-tourism". Although some people visit Antarctica, there are no citizens of Antarctica and no nation of Antarctica, hence, there would be nobody to create Immigration rules or to keep anybody out. If no one objects to your visit, you can visit. In the event that some kind of serious economic exploitation of Antarctica should take place, I am sure that a number of governments of nations in the Southern Hemisphere would take an interest, but for now, that does not seem to be feasible.

Antarctica is open to tourists, based on their personal agreements to abide by The Antarctic Treaty.

Given current adherence to the guidelines agreed to, there is no reason to change this open access to Antarctica.
