Nobody, women, men or children should suffer violence against their person in our (so called) civilised society. Violence in any form is a crime and should be stopped.
Domestic Violence
I don't know about the "degree" of it, but it is classified as a "Crime Against Persons."
Depends on the misdemeanor. If it was for a crime of violence against a domestic partner, no. This is Federal law, and applies to all of the US. Other misdemeanors that old should not be a problem.

Federal criminal charges are when a crime has been committed specifically against a federal law. Simple criminal charges are more general and the crime might have been committed against a federal or national law.
Violence against gay people solely on the basis of their sexual orientation is no different than racial profiling and flagrant bigotry. Beating someone because he/she is gay or because he/she is black is the same crime, and should be met with the same punishment.
Define "act of violence." It actually must be a violent ACT, not just some harsh words. Violence against ANYBODY is a crime. Report it to your local law enforcement authorities.
Having a criminal record does not automatically eliminate you from securing a job with the Federal government. The type of crime is taken into consideration. Of course, you will not qualify for a federal position if your crime involves treason or rebellion against the United States.
