I think Americans learning about the Jewish holidays should be up to the individual. Not everyone would be interested although its a very nice gesture.
Each of the holidays has a particular focus that makes their celebration different from the others in some respect. To learn about a particular holiday of interest, see http://www.mazornet.com/holidays/
chabad.org is a great site to find all information about Jewish traditions as well as holidays. It has extensive data which is updated for the current year i.e. 2012

The topics that should be covered when enrolling for Jewish studies at a university are several. You must learn about the country Isreal and of course the study of the Torah. You must learn the laws and rules of being Jewish.

Americans living in South-Western America (i.e. CA, TX, NM, AX, etc.) should definitely learn Spanish. The high volume of Mexican immigration makes the language very useful. Cuban immigration to Florida is a good reason for the Peninsula State residents to learn Spanish as well. Absolutely not......If people wish to come and live in America then they should learn to speak the English language...we should not have to learn spanish, french, German, Russian, or any other language to appease the foreigners visiting or otherwise... Speaking fluent English should be a requirement for citizenship..
