Wisdom teeth should be something you should get out as soon as you can, otherwise it can lead to problems with your other teeth or mouth, unless your mouth is big enough to keep them in. Your dentist can tell you if you'll need them out.

Your orthodontist should be able to answer this question. In some cases, there is enough room for your wisdom teeth to come in without overcrowding. There shouldn't be any real "danger" except that they may cause your teeth to become crooked which is why most people have them removed eventually.

Why is it important to take your wisdom teeth out?

Your wisdom teeth do not necessarily have to be pulled out. Usually, the situation is that the gums are not large enough to accommodate all of your teeth, including the wisdom ones, hence they have to be removed to prevent crowding, which can be very painful in some cases. There are a few people whose mouths are large enough to accommodate wisdom teeth, so they don't have to be pulled out.

Is it OK to get braces if your wisdom teeth may come in soon?

I don't know if it's OK. I have braces myself and my wisdom teeth are coming in right now. Unfortunatly, I have to get them pulled, if anything that's what would happen. You should wait until the wisdom teeth come in, and then get them pulled, because the metal bands may not fit around the wisdom teeth, and most people have more comfort when their wisdom teeth are pulled. I have braces and my wisdom teeth came through and my otho hasn't done anything to them.

Does everyone get all 4 wisdom teeth?

Not necessarily. Some hypodontic individuals do not have a full set of 32 permanent tooth buds. But the average human will have 4 third molars (wisdom teeth), even though they may not develop or erupt. About 3 out of 4 people have wisdom teeth grow in. Some people have small mouths, so there is no room, and this can damage the gums unless they are removed. The removal of wisdom teeth is often complex due to their position and a tendency to form curved roots.

Is it possible for an adult to not need any wisdom teeth removed if they've never grown in or threatened the growth of the other teeth?

If you have wisdom teeth and they haven't come in normally, you need to have them removed. And possiblly even if they have come in. They are so far back it's very hard to keep them properly cleaned. It's better to get them removed as a young adult rather than an older person. It's also better to get them removed before they start causing problems. Most dentists recommend to extract wisdom teeth, even if there are no symptoms, to prevent future complications. For adults over 30 years old, most dentist would not remove wisdom teeth because the roots are completely formed and the bone around them is dense. Extraction would be indicated only if there are symptoms. It is not necessary. my dad's wisdom teeth are all still intact and he has never had a need to take them out.
