I have both my lip and belly button pierced. I had my belly button pierced with a hoop and my lip pierced with a bar/stud. The belly button was more irritating then the lip because a hoop piercing requires the piercer to clamp it shut and fiddle around with a new pierced part instead of just screwing a ball on. I recommend any new piercings to be with a bar/stud as it is quicker and less irritating. Put it this way, I'm going for a 2nd lip piercing and not another belly button piercing ;)

I will say yes because i have both now you have alot of nerves in both belly button and lip but the lip is much more fragile than the belly button any thing that pokes into it could hurt Alot worse than a belly button percisng^ It Actually Doesn't Hurt More Than Your Belly Button, I Have Both Done, And I'm Terrified Of Needles. Your Lip Just Feels A Bit Weirder, But Doesn't Hurt. :)
What to do when a belly button piercing is red and swollen?
It all depends on how long you have had your piercing. If it has been more than 1 month, it might be infected. But if it is relatively new, that is perfectly normal. In both cases, just keep cleaning it with a sea salt and water solution and it should be OK. If is persists, go to your piercer, and they should be able to tell you and give you further instructions. Because the same little nerves and veins run through the bottom lip to the top so the swelling is caused by the piercing and affects both lips in some people.
