Should you give Christmas gift to your staff if you are a manager?

It doesn't matter what the person's salary is, it's the thought that counts here. It doesn't have to be an extravagant, costly item. If you want to get the manager a gift, by all means, get the manager one!

yes it is appropriate but first i think you should ask him what he/she likes or his/her before purchasing a gift so it gives a rough idea what he/she would want as a present and not look like an idiot

I think you should! It doesn't have to be a very expensive gift. It can say ," Thanks for being my boss!" plus it will put you on their good side! Some good ideas are

1. Depending on your occupation ( they have job merchandise) Example, " Nurse blankets or mugs

2. Desk or wall decorations

3. Candy

4. Or a gift card somewhere

It really depends on your company environment. If you have a close unit (team) environment, it is probably a good idea. Also, how big is your staff and what is your budget? I've almost always given my staff a present, not business related but nothing too personal, often the same gift for everyone. A bottle of wine for Christmas dinner, a $25 gift certificate to a store like Sears, etc....and a card.
