Deciding between joining the Army or the Marines for Military Police (MP) will depend on your personal preferences and career goals. The Army offers a larger MP force with a wider range of job opportunities, while the Marines have a smaller MP presence but focus heavily on combat training. Consider factors like job availability, training intensity, deployment frequency, and overall military culture to make an informed decision that aligns with your aspirations.

What is an MP and how do you become one?

An MP is a Member of Parliament who with other MP's decide which laws should be passed in a country. To become one, your best bet is to study Politics and enter through that way. MP can also stand for military police (officer). To become that kind of MP, join the military and sign up for military police training.

Are military police officers real?

Yes. They are the policing arm of the various military branches (e.g.: the US Navy & Coast Guard maintain their own SP's (Shore Patrol) - the Army and the Marines maintain their own MP's (military police) the Air force have AP's (air police). ALL of the foregoing are loosely referred to as "MP's." The various MP organizations do not have any jurisdiction over civilians UNLESS they happen to be on a military installation.

Which military branch has the best benefits for someone who wants to be a Military Police right out of high school?

I've been in the Army for over 11 years. Military benefits are the same no matter which branch you join. To become an MP (Military Police), make sure MEPS offers you that job and it is listed in your contract. Every branch has MP's. Your mission is to find the branch you want to be a part of. Army & Marines are more physical than Air Force and Navy, take into account potential duty stations, promotion abilities, etc.. My decision was made based on wanting to do more of what the military is known for and I wanted a more physical branch

In the Marine Corps is it possible for someone who reached the rank of gunnery sergeant to have been both a sniper AND a MP?

Yes. MP's are not a specialty in the Corps. Snipers are specialists but they are still Marines. Carlos Hathcock was just that. He started out as an MP. Became "arguably" the greatest marine sniper ever. And retired as a Gunny.
