Anytime something is going on with your piercing that doesn't look, feel, or smell (yes smell) right or in any way makes you uncomfortable you should see your piercer. I say "your piercer" because like any personal service provider you use (ex: your hairstylist) your piercer will be more familiar with you, your piercing, and, if you have or eventually get more than one piercing, he/she will know more about your body's rate of healing.
Rejection of body jewelry by your body, in particular, can be rather difficult to pinpoint as a minor irritation can also seem or feel like rejection, better to let the professional decide. If it is rejection and you want to keep your piercing you may simply need to change the jewelry for a piece made of a different type of metal or material.
