We have a Lab/Rottweiler mix and Miniature Daschound and they are the best of friends. They take care of each other and would be lost without each other.
Both our dogs are fixed so we have a male (miniature daschound) and a female (the Lab/Rott) so i think that helps. If you tried to put two of the same sex together there may be issues, but then maybe not.
