You should definitely plan past 2012.

The idea that something big would happen 2012 is based on the idea that the old Mayan calendar ended at that year, which is the same as saying that you shouldn't make plans past December 31 - any year - as that's when our calendar ends.

Now, to be honest, there's always the off chance that something entirely big, bad and random might happen 2012. But it's the same off chance that we've faced evey year.
