It depends on what you mean by a 'former friend'. If that person is no longer your friend any more but still has a relationship with you, then yes, you should send one to him/her. However, if that person was your friend before but due to some incident has become your enemy, then I suggest you stay away from him/her.
Just say what you feel, just as if you were writing a birthday card to a friend.
If you have not been in contact with the estranged friend for over a year then no, you do not send a birthday card because it appears both of you have moved on in your lives.
For your friend's birthday you should give him or her something that she or he likes and if you don't know just be creative I got my friend a BIG birthday card with lots of pictures of us and her threw the years.
write a birthday card and give it to them :)
You should write, in your friend's birthday card, the good feelings you have about your friend, whether or not you can make it into a poem. Alternatively you should find a poem to quote that means what you would like to express to your friend.
You do not need to send a thank you card for a birthday or holiday card; however, you should send that person a birthday card on HIS/HER next birthday. Holiday cards should be reciprocated as appropriate. Just thank them when you receive the gift or by phone
If you are unsure of what to get someone for a birthday gift, a gift card is always a good choice.
Try: I'm glad you are my (friend, nephew, daughter, etc.)! Happy Birthday! Love/Your Friend, (Your Name)
