If there is nothing to say, then just dont talk. don't lie though in a situation where it would save you, or where you were in the right. either you tell the truth or you say nothing.

I'm not rocket scientist but why would you talk to someone if they have nothing to say to you and you have nothing to say to them or on the other hand ask what his interests are then make a converstation outta those and just make up little topics like what are you doing tomorrow and if he wants to hang out that you could always talk about. its really easy just make up something to talk about.
