if you take the thermostat out of houseing and the opening temp should be on it , around 88 degrees opening
The thermostat on the Nissan Altima should be directly behind the alternator. This will be on the passenger side of the car and directly under a large heater hose.
Even though you have already replaced the thermostat, there are other issues that can cause your Nissan Maxima to overheat. Your fan may be stuck and not operating as it should.
Thermostats range in temperature from 175-205 degrees. Choose a 195 degree thermostat and you'll be fine.
4 cyl = 180 thermostat 6 cyl = 195 thermostat
192 degree
TWO DEGREES
My 2001 Nissan frontier 3.3 v6 engine is overheating. I changed the thermostat but it still overheats.
should be the same temperature as your thermostat rating...generally around 190 to 195 degrees.
you should just be able to follow the upper hose to the water outlet then remove the 2 screws holding it on and inside you should see the thermostat
Follow the lower radiator hose from the radatoro to the engine. The lower hose is attached to the thermostat at the engine. Are you haveing problems with the engine warming up but the heat not blowing as hot as it should? Consider the heater core.
At best a lower temp t-stat. should only be used as a TEMPORARY fix while you track down the actual cause of the overheating issue. I would check to make sure your cooling fan is coming on, the flow rate of the radiator to rule out blockage and the water pump to make sure it is circulating the coolant.
