Well your taste buds (over 10,000 on average) don't go numb. You may loose a couple due to the piercing but the taste buds themselves regenerate. Case in point: Eat a bag of Salt & Vinegar potato chips then look at your tongue, you will see great flat spots over areas of the tongue, "missing taste buds". Discharge and other healing processes can play games during the initial healing period, this is not limited to messing with your sense of taste.
There could be several reasons why your taste buds are numb and you can't taste anything right now. Some of these reasons include burning mouth syndrome, trauma, paresthesia, anesthesia, stroke, tumor or certain medication.

Taste buds can be fooled by factors such as temperature, texture, and appearance of food. For example, cold foods can numb taste buds, altering perception of flavor. Texture can also impact how we perceive taste, with crunchiness or creaminess affecting our experience. Additionally, the visual presentation of food can influence taste perception, as we often associate appearance with certain flavors.
The reason you can't taste anything is because your tongue is most likely infected. You should seek professional medical treatment for this. Tongue piercings can be very serious and if they get infected they can rot and decay until nothings left. The symptoms are as follows: Food has little or no taste, tongue is swollen/abnormally large, tongue goes numb at random or is numb for extended periods of time, and hemorrhaging of the taste buds.

Ice cubes can temporarily numb your taste buds due to the cold temperature, which may dull your ability to perceive certain flavors. This numbing effect can make foods and beverages taste less intense. However, once the ice melts and the temperature normalizes, your taste perception returns to normal. Overall, while ice cubes can influence taste perception, the effect is usually brief.
