The first slide that shows up should say somehting like Main title Sub title then if you make a new title it should say Title then text

There are two on a standard title slide. One is for the main title and one for the subtitle. You can also have a title only slide, which has just one placeholder.

If using PowerPoint you can use "Insert" form the menu bar. Click on "New Slide" and then click on "Format" from the menu bar and choose "Layout". You will have the option to choose either a "Title Slide" or "Title Only" slide. Then enter your desired text into the title box given.
