Toussaint L'Ouverture was the leader of the only successful slave revolt in modern history. He was a former Haitian slave, and he was inspired to join the insurgency of the revolution by the Night of Fire. The Night of Fire happened on August 22, 1791. It was an uprising in which many plantations were burned and white plantation families were killed.
