I'm assuming you mean a starship traveling at less than the speed of light. They would have to be generation ships, meaning generations of inhabitants would live and die during the voyage. It would take hundreds of years (perhaps thousands?) to reach the closest star (Proxima Centuri), so there is always a chance the travelers will revert to primitive conditions, and forget their past, or the ship could break down, sending them on a long voyage to nowhere. We are not yet ready for this technology.
