The large amount of knowledge concerning history is based on the many sources available to historians. In ancient times, writings of ancient statesman such as Cato, Tacitus and Julius Caesar, gives the historian certain views of the way these men saw their world. Also, archaeologists have made revealing discoveries by examining ancient artifacts and parts of ancient cities that reveal how life was in those times. More recent history has sources such as personal letters, newspaper articles form decades ago, and personal memoirs of historical figures.
