The larval form of butterflies come in many shapes, colors and sizes. There are a few distinguishing characteristics, chief of which are that they have soft bodies with up to five prolegs. Caterpillars also have six stemmata.
It feeds on leaves and does not have wings
The pupa of the butterfly is also known as the chrysalis or cocoon. The caterpillar spins the cocoon, which is like a hardened silk, to protect them while they go through metamorphosis.

---- the immature free-living form of most invertebrates and amphibians and fish which at hatching from the egg is fundamentally unlike its parent and must metamorphose
The first stage of the cycle is an egg then the egg hatches and it becomes and caterpillar which technical word is larva then it turns into a chrysalis or a pupa and then turns into a butterfly. The eggs are laid on the underside of milkweed leaves. The butterfly and the larva is found in open meadows, gardens and much, much more. There are four stages in the life cycle of a butterfly. The first stage is the egg. From the egg comes a caterpillar. Then the chrysalis develops. The last stage is the butterfly. Typically a butterfly lives for about two weeks.
The larval stage of a butterfly usually lasts from two weeks to about a month, and it is the main feeding stage for the butterfly. The larvae, called caterpillars, eat almost constantly and grow at an astonishing rate.

Two kinds of metamorphosis are complete and incomplete.A complete metamorphosis has four stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. An incomplete metamorphosis has three stages: egg, nymph and adult.
There are two wheels. They turn alternately and make the hexbug larva slither
The meaning of metamorphosis is just a life cycle there are two kinds of metamorphosis they are Incomplete and Complete metemorphosis Complete metamorphosishave :egg larva pupa young adult and adult ex:bee butterfly Incomplete have:egg nymph and adult ex:frog

The stages of complete metamorphosis in butterflies are the egg --> larva --> pupa --> adult. A butterfly larva (caterpillar) hatches from an egg and starts eating. At the end of the larval stage, the larva attaches to a branch or leaf on a plant and then forms a chrysalis (pupal stage), inside of which its cells rearrange themselves to form the adult butterfly. Eventually the adult butterfly emerges from the chrysalis to begin the cycle again.
