You have probably bent a rim and knocked the vehicle out of alignment. Don't drive it too far until you've had a chance to make the necessary repairs, otherwise you'll destroy the tire. It may also have some control problems which may result in unsafe driving conditions.
A steering wheel oscillation is an indication of a bad tire or bent rim.
The power steering pump pulley nut is loose. Or the power steering pump bearing is bad. On my 1998 it was just the loose nut.
The main component of power steering fluid are petroleum products. Each brand of power steering fluid will have slight variants on the makeup of the ingredients. It is important to make sure that the fluid you are buying is compatible with your car.
The fluid can get on the exhaust, very slight chance of a fire. If all the fluid leaks out, you will not have steering assist.
slight knock when turning can be caused by a loose wheel bearing, worn ball joints,or ball joints that need grease, can also be caused by a worn bearing in side the steering column,or worn out shock absorber.
When your steering becomes and loose and woolly, your steering box is normally the culprit. Over time, the cogs in the box will wear slightly and loosen from each other. There are set screws on the box to help minimize this effect without needed to buy a new box. however, the adjustment is slight without locking the steering up, so you may just need to get a new box. Also, low power steering fluid can cause this. Check your level and pump.
I just looked this up online and found a pretty good website. Although I havnt tried to do it yet on my own corvette I probably will within the hour http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ar_1962_corvette/article/0,,DIY_13704_2278440,00.HTML this is the URL as well as some of the directions from the sitethe next step in this restoration is to adjust the Corvette's steering using the steering-box located underneath the hood. An earlier test-drive revealed that the steering wheel exhibited some play during driving. Since the other steering components have been checked and found to be in good shape, the play may be due to wear in the gears inside the steering box.The Corvette's steering box permits adjustment of these gears, which may well solve the steering problem. Adjustment of the steering requires two people, but the job can be done in just a few minutes. The steering box is unlocked using an open-end wrench and a screwdriver extended through a factory hole in the fiberglass body. To adjust the steering, unlock the nut with about a quarter-turn, then adjust the steering using a slotted screwdriver (figure H).As one person sits in the drivers seat and turns the steering wheel in slight increments, another person can adjust the steering (figure I) until the excess play is removed.Important: Avoid over-tightening the steering-box mechanism, as this may cause binding of the steering.
Your car is out of, or low on power steering fluid. (make sure you buy the proper steering fluid for your car, ex: Honda's only safely take Honda steering fluid)Check the following Once you have checked the fluid level and the problem persists, rev the engine slightly to see if the steering improves. If it does, it means the flow rate of your pump is low and needs attention/replacement. If it doesn't improve, have your pump tested by a power steering repair shop. There is a slight possibility of there being a problem in your rack if the shaft teflon is damaged or the teflon rings in the spool valve have worn grooves into the housing. www.powerbrakeandsteering.co.za
Low tire pressure? Frozen brake caliper?
could be your steering is messed up for the turning. but for the transmission you could have blown piston
First thing to do is check your power steering fluid level. If it is full, and that does not fix your problems, check all of your power steering lines and make sure there are no kinked/pinched lines. If none of this fixes it then you should have it looked at by your local mechanic. If none of the above strategies fix it, then there is a slight chance that your Pwr Steering pump is bad.
possibly a power steering belt or worn brake rotor pad . i suggest buying a ford.
